What you’ll do
Over a 3-month volunteer placement, you will learn:
- tips and pointers on public speaking and presenting,
- communication skills to engage with visitors which includes skills in science communication and customer service, and
- the background of the various exhibits at Questacon.

Key dates
The 2025 Student Training Program starts on Thursday 1 May and finishes on Thursday 31 July.
Before applying check that you can:
- attend training sessions on Thursday afternoons from 4:30pm to 6:30pm,
- are eligible for a Working With Vulnerable People Registration,
- available to volunteer at Questacon for a total of 20 hours in the July school holidays.
Eligibility
To be eligible, you’ll need to be in year 11 or 12 and at least 16 years old.
All Questacon staff, volunteers and trainees are required to hold a current Working with Vulnerable People Registration (WWVP).

Nominations open on Monday 10 February 2025.
To be considered for this program, your school needs to submit an application on your behalf from your school’s Principal, Science Coordinator, Technology Coordinator or Careers Adviser.
If you are interested ask your school to email us for a nomination form, available from Monday 10 February.
Nominations close Friday, 28 March.
Things to know
Your school’s principal, science coordinator, technology coordinator and/or careers adviser will get information sheets from us in the first week of Term 1 2025.
Note that this program is for volunteer positions. Although we do sometimes hire volunteers as part of our paid staff, unfortunately we can’t guarantee this will happen.
