The terms of admission
- These terms apply when you buy tickets for entry to Questacon – The National Science and Technology Centre, Parkes, ACT or to an outreach event.
- Questacon is a division of the Australian Government Department of Industry, Science and Resources.
- These terms apply to the purchaser. We may change these terms. Please read them carefully each time you book. Your booking will be covered by the terms that apply when you book.
- Questacon may refuse you admission if you do not comply with these terms.
- Questacon galleries and exhibits may close or change without notice. Other than as required by the Australian Consumer Law, no refund or other compensation will be provided for tickets booked. All requests for refunds, time extensions or other compensation should be directed to info@questacon.edu.au.
- If Questacon is closed because of a government policy or direction, Questacon will refund tickets for sessions during the closed period.
- Prices are in Australian dollars. Online tickets include all ticketing fees.
Your ticket is for you to use for the booked session
- The ticket is non-transferable, and is not redeemable for cash.
- You must not resell tickets as part of a commercial package or at a premium, unless agreed in writing with Questacon beforehand.
- Questacon will not swap your booked session for another session. Questacon may give you a refund if you submit a written request to info@questacon.edu.au before the session.
- Questacon will not give a refund if you change your mind or forget to attend your booked session.
- Each ticket can only be used once, for the session booked.
- Pre-purchased tickets must be presented for inspection by displaying a barcode on entry, either through an electronic device or in printed hard copy. Entry may be refused if Questacon staff reasonably consider a ticket to be invalid or fraudulent, including because the ticket has been altered, damaged or defaced, or has not been purchased from Questacon or other authorised points of sale.
If you are unwell
- For the wellbeing of all visitors, do not attend Questacon if you are unwell.
- If you are unwell and cannot attend your booked session, you must advise Questacon by email to info@questacon.edu.au before the session.
- Questacon will refund your pre-purchased ticket if you can’t attend because you are unwell. You may need to provide a medical certificate or other evidence.
Children and concessions
- For your Questacon Experience, a child is a person who has turned 4 years old but not yet turned 17. An adult is a person aged 17 years or older.
- Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult (16+) at all times.
- Before booking for their child, the parent or guardian must make their own judgement about whether the exhibition is suitable for the child.
- To qualify for a Concession membership, you must present one of the following forms of ID that is current and valid:
- primary, secondary or full-time tertiary student card
- Senior card
- Pension card
- Centrelink card
- Veterans’ Affairs card
Your responsibilities
- You may be denied entry or removed from Questacon where Questacon staff have reasonable grounds, including if you are intoxicated, behave in a threatening, disorderly or offensive way, use vulgar or abusive language or adversely affect other people’s Questacon experience.
- You may be denied entry or asked to leave Questacon if Questacon staff have reasonable grounds to suspect that you are unwell and your attendance at Questacon may be a risk to staff or other visitors. Questacon may refund the value of your ticket if you are denied entry or asked to leave for this reason.
- Questacon’s liability to you is limited to loss and damage caused by a negligent act or omission by Questacon. Questacon does not accept responsibility for the negligent acts or omissions of visitors.
Health and safety
- Visitors to Questacon have a shared responsibility for their own safety and the safety of others. Under work health and safety law, visitors must:
- Take reasonable care of their own health and safety;
- Treat staff and other visitors with respect;
- Take reasonable care to ensure that they do not adversely affect the safety of others;
- Comply with all instructions given by Questacon staff so far as they are reasonably able to.
- Photographs and videos must not be taken of staff, visitors or their children without their permission.
- No smoking, No Vaping. Questacon and grounds are a designated non-smoking area in accordance with Commonwealth and Territory Legislation.
- No food or drink in the galleries, theatres or the Questacon Shop.
- No running, skates, skateboards or “heely” shoes (shoes with built-in wheels) in the Centre or on the grounds.
- Shoes must be worn except on exhibits as signposted or instructed by staff.
- Objects which may be dangerous to others (e.g. large umbrellas, large camera tripods) must be left in lockers or the cages at the Information Desk.
- All visitors are responsible for the safekeeping and security of their belongings while on Questacon premises.
Surveillance cameras
- Surveillance cameras monitor and record Questacon premises and exhibits for:
- internal quality monitoring
- security and safety of staff
- public safety.
- Questacon may share surveillance camera footage with the Department of Industry, Science and Resources, the ACT Emergency Services Agency or law enforcement bodies for the above purposes.
- Surveillance camera footage will not be used or disclosed for any other purpose unless that is authorised by the Privacy Act 1988 or another laws.
Privacy
- When you buy tickets through Ticketek, Questacon will collect your personal information, including your first name and contact number. Questacon may share that information with government health bodies (e.g. ACT Health and the Australian Government Department of Health) if they require contact tracing.
- Questacon may also use your personal information to give you an opportunity to provide feedback on your Questacon experience. If you do not wish to receive that opportunity, please notify Questacon by email info@questacon.edu.au.
