Questacon – The National Science and Technology Centre in Canberra, has launched its new exhibition, Australia in Space. This exciting interactive exhibition explores the ways Australian innovations are used in space, and the surprising benefits space technologies bring to everyday life here on Earth.
Australia in Space was designed and developed by Questacon as part of a collaboration with the Australian Space Agency to deliver the Australian Space Discovery Centre in Adelaide. Australia in Space complements the permanent exhibition at the Discovery Centre which was launched on 31 March 2021 and opens to the public tomorrow. The Discovery Centre will inspire the next generation of the workforce with stories of innovation, curiosity and technology.
“Australia in Space highlights how space touches virtually every sector of the Australian economy and improves the lives of Australians - like helping us find our way on Google maps, and planning and responding to bushfires through Earth observation technologies,” said Head of the Australian Space Agency, Enrico Palermo.
Development of both exhibitions was based on the national civil space priority areas in consultation with the Australian Space Agency. 94 knowledge partners from the space and science fields provided valuable input and expertise throughout the exhibition development process.
Visitors to the exhibitions can explore Australia’s work in propulsion and aerospace technologies, discover the challenges of operating in orbit, and learn about Australian innovations that take advantage of the opportunities that space presents.
“These exhibitions provide an exciting opportunity for visitors to learn more about Australia’s innovation, expertise and contributions to the space sector” said Dr Bobby Cerini, Deputy Director and General Manager, Science and Learning at Questacon.
“In addition to exploring the surprising ways space technologies are used in our everyday lives and how space research is teaching us more about Earth, visitors can discover how they could become part of Australia’s inspiring future in space through exciting space industry career opportunities” said Dr Cerini.
Australia in Space features 25 interactive experiences that celebrate Australia’s contributions to space and let visitors explore Australia’s world-leading space science, research and innovations. Australia in Space will be open at Questacon in Canberra for approximately 12 months before travelling throughout the country.
Australia in Space is designed to welcome space enthusiasts and newcomers alike, getting all visitors on-board with Australia’s vision for a vibrant and diverse space sector.
Visiting Australia in Space
Australia in Space can be experienced as part of Questacon’s two-hour general admission sessions. Sessions are available daily. Tickets must be pre-booked online and are not available at the door. For more information visit www.questacon.edu.au.
