At Questacon, we know that Australia is full of creative inventors, innovators and entrepreneurs, and we’re always on the lookout for stories of clever Aussies doing brilliant things!
Take Jeff Anning, for example, who went from structural landscaper to electric skateboard designer after tinkering with his first board.
When Jeff first bought himself an electric skateboard, it was a bit of a disappointment. It was heavy and bulky, and was missing a few key things. Curious about how the board worked, Jeff pulled it apart and realised that with a few simple changes, he could make a much better product.
When Jeff started tinkering with that first board he was trying to challenge himself and make something that would better suit his own needs. He didn’t expect to end up as the director of his own international company. He didn’t start with high-end machinery or fancy computer modeling either – he built his first prototype using cardboard and a tin can! Now, Jeff’s boards are sold in thirty countries.
Jeff is proof that if you have a passion and back yourself, you can achieve anything. Jeff’s story and other stories of inspirational Australian innovators and their creations are being showcased in our new online exhibition space, Enterprising Australians.
